A Nation Divinely Placed to Lead Eastern Europe

October 10, 2023

(UPDATE 2023: The Ukraine profile was written prior to the onset of the Russo-Ukrainian War. While it is too soon to know the full impact the conflict will have on Ukraine's mission-sending potential, we all pray for peace and an end to the violence.)

The second largest country in Eastern Europe, Ukraine is bordered by Belarus, Russia, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, and the Black Sea. With a busy history of war, political strife, and economic troubles, the nation has seen many revolutions and civil wars.

Ukraine has a high percentage of Christians at 79%. Of that 97%, most are Eastern Orthodox, and roughly 3% identify as protestant evangelicals. A hub for evangelical teaching and printing in Eastern Europe, the Lord has divinely placed the nation as a tool and light to Eastern Europe in ways its neighboring countries cannot.

A religiously free nation, Ukrainians can practice religion as they see fit, with little worry of social hostilities or governmental intervention. Culturally bridged to many Muslim countries, the nation is well-placed to be a light to the Arab world. With a low but rising economic prosperity rank, moderate sending numbers, and a low generosity score, Ukraine's mobilization potential is moderate.
